Tablecloth Shapes: Round, rectangular, and square

 Materials:

Tablecloths come in a variety of materials. Choosing which type of material you want depends on what you’re looking for in a tablecloth.

-Polyester – Tablecloths made from polyester fabric are machine washable and easy to care for. Plus, they can be used over and over again!

-Cotton – These types of tablecloths may require some light ironing to smooth out the wrinkles, but they’re machine washable and will look wonderful when covering your table at any event

-Satin – Satin tablecloths add a beautiful touch to a party or event. These beautiful tablecloths can be machine washed in warm water and dried in the dryer on a low heat setting.

General Tablecloth Tips:

-A tablecloth should have an 8” – 12” drop. In order to select the right size tablecloth you should always add about 12” – 20” to the actual length and width of the table.

-All of our tablecloths are machine washable with cold water, to avoid color fading.

-Typical size for a 10-person table is 72” for a round table.

-To determine the correct size cloth for your table, measure the dimensions of your table top and add 6-10 inches per side for the drop (the part of the cloth that hangs over the side).

-Polyester table cloths are the most versatile, and rarely need to be ironed.

Tools You Will Need:

• Scissors
• Measuring tape
• Straight pins
• Sewing machine
• Steam iron
• Ironing board or flat surface

Materials You Will Need:

• DIY fabric
• Thread

Steps:

1. Measure your tabletop with your tape measure, and write down the dimensions.

2, Determine the desired length and drop of your tablecloth, or the amount of overhang, and add this number plus 1” to each of the tabletop dimensions from step 1. A standard tablecloth has a drop of 8” to 10”.

3. Choose your fabric! CraftsNFavors.com has a large selection of fabric bolts to choose from. Make sure it’s at least 54” wide, in cotton or a cotton-polyester blend. Purchase the yardage in accordance with steps 1 and 2.

4. Prewash and press the fabric.

5. Lay your fabric out on a flat surface, wrong side up. Measure and cut your fabric to the dimensions in steps 1 and 2.

6. Iron each edge under ½”, and then press that edge under once more.

7. Pin the hem into place so that the pins are perpendicular to the edges of the fabric.

8. Use a sewing machine to stitch your tablecloth hem. Try to sew a straight line all the way around.

9. If you don’t own a sewing machine, hands sew the hem using a backstitch.

10. Add a decorative touch to your tablecloth by adding a fringe or decorative stitch along the edge of the tablecloth.
